Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)


How large are classes?
Class sizes vary depending on student numbers and level of progress of individuals. The usual class contain between two and four students, except singing and piano.

Can I hire an instrument?

At what age can my child begin lessons?
This varies according to the instrument and the child’s readiness. The Academy, in consultation with the relevant tutor, can advise you on the best time for your child to begin lessons on a specific instrument.

Can adults learn at the Academy?
Yes. While at this stage we do not have classes specifically for adults, we do have a number of adults learning individually with our tutors. Adults are also welcome to participate in our academy orchestra, if they have reached the required level.

Where do lessons take place?
Lessons are held at the Rangiora Town Hall, 303 High Street, Level One Studio suites.

When do lessons take place?
All lessons take place after school on Monday to Thursday between 3.30pm-7.30pm

Do I have to learn at the Academy to join an orchestra?
Anyone from outside the Academy who has reached the required level can join our orchestra. Please see our Fees page.

Can I observe my child’s lessons?
We encourage parents to attend lessons, especially those who have younger children learning at the Academy; however, attendance is at the tutor’s discretion.

What do I need to bring with me to lessons?
